Control Engineering of Atmospheric Pollutants I

Instructor: Evangelia Kostenidou
Lesson Code: 15ΕΥ4Ν
Semester: 5th
Weekly teaching hours: 3
ECTS Credits: 5
Prerequisites: Mathematics, Atmospheric Pollution
Course offered to Erasmus students: No
Course URL: https://eclass.duth.gr/courses/ TMC106/

Learning Outcomes:

The goal of this course is the familiarization of the students with the pollutants that are produced and emitted by the industry, and the corresponding removal techniques. After the completion of the course the students will be able to:

  • estimate the efficiency of each pollutant removal technique
  • select the appropriate removal method for gas or/and particle phase pollutants that are emitted by industry
  • design the appropriate application for the removal of the pollutants.

Course Content:
1. Principles of pollution control engineering of atmospheric pollutants
2. Atmospheric pollutants: general knowledge
3. Gravity settlers
4. Centrifugal separators
5. Electrostatic precipitators
6. Surface filters
7. Depth filters
8. Wet scrubbers
