Dr. Vasilis Bellos is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Engineering of the School of Engineering in Xanthi, Democritus University of Thrace. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in hydraulic engineering, and has pursued both postgraduate and doctoral studies in integrated water resources management.

He has over ten years of experience in research (participation in international and national research projects), in technical work (design and preparation of hydraulic engineering studies), as well as in academic writing (articles in international scientific journals, presentations at international and national conferences, and contributions to scientific textbooks).

His expertise lies in the fields of Computational Hydraulics and Hydroinformatics, focusing on the use and uncertainty of numerical models (physically-based, conceptual, and Machine Learning) for water resources problems, such as hydrodynamic simulations and environmental hydraulics. His scientific interests include flood risk and risk management. He is the developer of the 2D flood simulation algorithm FLOW-R2D and is proficient in the use of hydraulic and hydrological software tools.
